چکیده

Abstract: We show how Cagniard de Hoop method can be used, first to obtain error estimates for the Perfectly Matched Layers in acoustics (PML), then to understand the instabilities of the PML when applied to aeroacousics. The principle of the methods consists in applying to the equations a Laplace transform in time and a Fourier transform in one space variable to obtain an ordinary differential equation which can be explicitely solved. This solution contains

Transient fields of a vertical electric dipole on an M-layered dielectric medium

A simple and explicit derivation for the vertical electric dipole excited by a short-pulse current and located above a layered dielectric medium is derived in an analytical form using the Cagniard–de Hoop method. The fields are expressed as the convolution of the exciting current with the layered medium response. This response is obtained directly from the integral representation for the magnet...

Analytical Solution for Wave Propagation in Stratified Poroelastic Medium. Part I: the 2D Case

We are interested in the modeling of wave propagation in poroelastic media. We consider the biphasic Biot’s model in an infinite bilayered medium, with a plane interface. We adopt the Cagniard-De Hoop’s technique. This report is devoted to the calculation of analytical solutions in two dimensions. The solutions we present here have been used to validate numerical codes. Key-words: Biot’s model,...

Transient elastic plane-wave diffraction by a semi-infinite fluid-filled crack in an isotropic, dispersive solid

The canonical problem of the diffraction of a transient elastic plane wave by a semiinfinite fluid-filled crack in an unbounded, homogeneous, isotropic, dispersive solid is considered. The dispersion properties of the solid (and its associated loss mechanism) are accounted for by general, global relaxation functions that meet the causality criterion and encompass the influence of frictional for...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions and Perfectly Matched Layers—An Analytic Time-Domain Performance Analysis

The time-domain performance of a number of absorbing boundary conditions invoked on the boundary of a domain of computation, as well as of a perfectly matched layer surrounding such a domain, is carried out for a test configuration for which analytic expressions for the relevant field quantities exist. The test configuration consists of a small loop antenna radiating into a homogeneous, isotrop...

An Analysis of Higher Order Boundary Conditions for the Wave Equation

Thanks to the use of the Cagniard–De Hoop method, we derive an analytic solution in the time domain for the half-space problem associated with the wave equation with Engquist– Majda higher order boundary conditions. This permits us to derive new convergence results when the order of the boundary condition tends to +∞, as well as error estimates. The theory is illustrated by numerical results.
